Our classroom Firefly t-shirts have been delivered. YAY!!!! Adult shirts will be sent home on Monday with students if they were ordered. ALL student shirts will be labeled with each student’s first name (on the inside collar) and kept in the classroom. I will keep the shirts until the end of the school year. They will be set out before field trips or special school activities for each student to put on after they arrive at school. I will also collect and launder each shirt each time they are worn, and return them to the classroom for the next adventure. This helps ensure that each student has a shirt to wear when we go on field trips which makes keeping track of your students much easier.
Nursery Rhyme Performance
Students are working really harding getting everything finished for their program performance. A letter was sent home last Friday (September 23rd) about the “costume needs” the students have decided on. They would like to dress as ducks to match their song. They decided to wear yellow shirts and a pair of jeans (shorts, pants, capris, skirts). We will be making a couple other items to put together to complete their costumes during class time this week. If you could send in a yellow shirt for your child by the end of the week (Friday, Sept 30th) we would greatly appreciate it. We are planning on adding the other costume elements on Friday afternoon so that it is ready to use for our dress rehearsal on Monday morning.
Field Trip to Safety City
Please be on the look out for permission slips to come home early this week for our Safety City Field Trip. Students will travel by bus from MKA on Monday, October 3rd, and spend about 3 hours at the Safety City Location on Battlefield Memorial Hwy. Students will explore and learn about fire safety, calling 911, fire escape plans, emergency services/persons/equipment, and community helpers. The cost of this field trip for each student will be $1.oo. This money will help cover the cost of the 2 buses we will need to use for our travel. When you receive the permission slip, please sign on both highlighted lines and return the slip and money in your students white folder. Unfortunately, due to limited space at the Safety City location, we will not be able to invite parents to join us for this field trip.
Boyd’s Orchard Field Trip
We will send home a separate permission slip for the Orchard field trip before Fall Break. This field trip will be on Thursday, October 13th, and will last the whole day. This is our first BIG SCHOOL WIDE field trip. All students, teachers, and staff will participate in the trip to the orchard. We also invite and encourage families to join us for this trip. We have a lot of fun picking apples from the orchard, exploring the petting zoo, feeding the animals, hauling in pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, learning all about the role bees play at the orchard, and playing on the playground. Students will be served a sack lunch from the cafeteria while we are there. Family members will need to plan on purchasing lunch from the Orchard’s Cafe during our trip. A favorite of past Orchard visits has always been eating apple donuts and drinking apple cider just before the hayride around the fields. Many memories will be made and lots of pictures will be taken. I hope many of you will be able to attend, it really is a GREAT trip!!!
