Week #3

It was wonderful getting to know all of our new fireflies last week with their “Me Bags”. Thank you to all of our families who sent in their bags to share.  It was wonderful hearing about their family members, favorite foods, and fun games they each like to play.  We were able to find friends who had some of the same “favorites” as us and those connections carried over into recess play and conversations.  Making friends is such an important part of kindergarten, and I am so happy to see how wonderful our students are with each other.

We will continue to learn and review our colors and shapes this week.  Everyone is doing well with working together in groups during our station times.  We will be focused on following the rules for stations and working together with others again this week.  The students are really enjoying making patterns with the chain links and creating things with our play-dough tubs.  This week we will add some practice with name writing, tracing specific line patterns (to prepare for letter writing), and working at a station with a teacher.

We will hold our first Parent Information Night on Tuesday, August 29th at 6pm.  There will be a book fair with Usborne books on the same night.  This informational meeting is to provide all firefly parents and families with important information about school expectations, procedures, and activities.  We will have a short time at the end for overall questions, but specific questions about your student or our classroom will be answered separately by me.

I am making a small change to our regular classroom procedures beginning this week.  On back to school night, I gave families a paper that discussed the procedures for snacks in our classroom.  I was going to send a calendar to each family with their specific snack day indicated on the calendar.  We have been working very hard with getting all of our learning activities in each day and are finding that the planned snack time at the end of the day is not adequate for a snack break.  I have decided that we will NOT have snack in the classroom at this time.  Our lunch time is scheduled in the middle of our day at 11:30 and many of the students are not interested in snack at 2:00.  If we find that the need arises later with the change of the seasons, and later sunrise times, we can always revisit making a schedule for snack times.

I  appreciate all of your support and interest in your student’s learning over the past 7 school days. We really are off to a great start!!!

Please be sure to look over the weekly newsletter to see about important upcoming events and activities.
